Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are available on Switch right now, as you no doubt know. The game’s rushed right to the top of the Switch eShop charts, with millions of fans eager to relive the GBA experience via Switch. While the game’s are largely the same as they were decades ago, Nintendo and Game Freak did go behind-the-scenes for a few tweaks you might not have caught.
The experience you know and love from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen is very much alive and well in the Switch versions, but here’s a breakdown of some tweaks, changes and adjustments you probably didn’t pick up on:
sections where you can input names have been updated with swear filters
a new button combination allows you quickly reset your game (A+B+X+Y at the same time)
limited-time event items to catch Deoxys, Ho-Oh and Lugia in the post-game – but
Deoxys, Ho-Oh and Lugia Legendaries, which were only available in specific regions in the original GBA release, are now available after you beat the Elite Four (tickets for the events are added to your inventory)
the “Roar” glitch has been patched out (details on that glitch here)
Nothing mind-blowing in terms of new content or updates, but definitely some nice tweaks and quality of life features that make for a smoother experience overall. There might even be more adjustments hidden in the games that are yet-to-be discovered, and we’ll certainly let you know if/when more pop up.
