New Jersey residents will get a much-needed break in the weather to start the weekend with highs in the 50s on Saturday, followed by multiple chances for light snow.
Temperatures will crash on Saturday night as a cold front sweeps across the state.
A coating to an inch of snow is possible for areas north of I-78 by Sunday morning.
“An arctic front late Saturday night into Sunday may bring some snow to our northern areas,” the National Weather Service said early Friday.
Rain is expected south of I-78, the weather service said.
Two additional chances for snow or a rain-snow mix follow on Monday and Tuesday into Wednesday.
In the meantime, sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s are expected on Friday, followed by even warmer weather for Saturday possibly hitting the 60s in some spots.
“Wall to wall sunshine expected today with light winds and the return of seasonable temperatures,” the weather service said. “Mild temperatures are expected through Saturday under mostly sunny skies. The warmth will come to an end by Saturday night.”
High temperatures on Monday will be in the 20s for much of the state.
The forecast includes two more chances for snow from Monday to Wednesday.
“A couple separate systems will pass close to or over the area,” the weather service said. “The first will come on Monday into Monday evening with the second coming later Tuesday into Wednesday.”
A warming trend will follow with high temperatures above normal for the second half of next week.
“Current forecast highs for late week are in the 50s and 60s,” the weather service said.
