Costco has announced a recall of a popular frozen fried rice product sold at its warehouse stores, as it may be contaminated with pieces of glass. All boxes of Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice sold at Costco warehouses between December 2024 and February 2026 have been recalled.
This recall comes a week after Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., voluntarily recalled its Trader Joe’s branded Chicken Fried Rice sold at Trader Joe’s stores in the U.S., as well as its name brand Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice sold at retailers in Canada.
How To Identify the Recalled Frozen Fried Rice From Costco
The recalled rice was sold at Costco stores in the U.S. between Dec. 3, 2024, and Feb. 20, 2026, under Costco’s product number 749182. The contaminated frozen rice products can be identified by the “best by” dates printed on the side of the box or on the individual bags. At this time, all Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice with the “best by” dates between Nov. 8, 2025, and Jan. 12, 2027, are being recalled.
You can find product images on Costco’s recall notice to help you identify if you have the recalled item.
What To Do if You Have the Recalled Frozen Fried Rice From Costco
While the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is not requiring Ajinomoto Foods North America to recall the rice sold at Costco stores in the U.S., the company did so out of an abundance of caution since its Yakitori Chicken with Japanese Style Fried Rice was recalled at Canadian Costco locations.
At this time, no injuries have been reported. However, you should not consume the fried rice sold at Costco in case it is contaminated with glass fragments, which can cause internal injury.
Instead, throw the rice away or return the product to any Costco store for a full refund.
